Media Type

The schema for IANA media types — the vocabulary the generated `media-types` code list at codes.kanonak.org is typed with. A media type names what a sequence of bytes is (`image/svg+xml`, `application/json`), so a locator, an asset or a format can say what it resolves to as a reference rather than a string.

A media type (RFC 6838) is a two-part name — a top-level type and a subtype — registered with IANA. The IANA Media Types registry is the source of truth; the media-types package at codes.kanonak.org is that registry projected by its producer, and this package is the schema. A Media Type entry's code is the full type/subtype string; its Top-Level Type is one of the eleven registered top-level types; its Registration Template is IANA's registration record and Specification the RFCs or documents that define it. A type the registry has obsoleted or deprecated carries owl.deprecated, and prov.supersededBy when the registry names the replacement (application/javascript was obsoleted in favour of text/javascript).
